You are getting married! Congratulations! Now you need to know about Maryland marriage license requirements. Perfect Wedding Guide is here to help. A marriage ceremony cannot take place unless a valid marriage license has been issued and you won't be able to apply for it after the ceremony.

Details may vary by county, so it is best to check with your local county Register of Deeds office. A selection of local counties with their contact information is listed below. When applying for a Maryland marriage license, no blood test is required.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

  • ID is required to apply for a Maryland marriage license.
  • You also need your social security number.
  • You need your current address,
  • A picture ID,
  • The date and location of birth,
  • proof of age (if under 21),
  • And the required fee.

If you are divorced or widowed, you must provide date of death or divorce. Documentation is helpful, but not required. Please call the appropriate office prior ro your visit to verify office hours and fees.

There is a two-day waiting period and you must purchase the license in the jurisdiction (county) where you will be getting married. You do not need to be a resident of Maryland. The license is valid, once issued, for six months.

Getting your Maryland marriage license is the first step to your new lives together. Make sure you are fully prepared.
